My Priorities

for Mesa Unified School District

Restore Financial Stability

Restoring financial stability requires transparent leadership, responsible decisions, and disciplined focus on prioritizing resources where they have the greatest impact on students, while addressing challenges like declining enrollment, aging infrastructure, and past short-term thinking.

Our district is facing a structural deficit driven by demographic shifts and declining enrollment. At the same time, infrastructure needs have grown as a result of delayed maintenance and short-term decision making. Addressing these challenges will require thoughtful leadership and difficult decisions in the coming years to restore long-term financial stability for Mesa Public Schools.

The Governing Board must approach these decisions with transparency and clear communication so the community understands both the challenges and the path forward. Building and maintaining public trust is essential as voters consider future bonds and overrides that support our schools.

Our focus must be on using district resources as effectively as possible and prioritizing investments that have the greatest direct impact on students.

Partnering With Parents

Strong schools are built when families are respected partners in their children’s education. Clear communication and engaged parents help students thrive and strengthen the entire school community.

Families are a student’s first and most important advocate. Strong schools are built when parents and families are treated as respected partners in decisions that affect their children’s education and well-being.

Our district must prioritize clear, consistent, and transparent communication with families. When parents feel informed and included, it builds trust and leads to better outcomes for students. When communication breaks down, it can create confusion, frustration, and missed opportunities for students to succeed.

Mesa Public Schools offers a wide range of educational opportunities, specialty programs, and pathways designed to help every student thrive. Parents should have easy access to the information they need to understand these options and make well-informed decisions with their children.

By strengthening the partnership between families and our schools, we can build a more engaged community. Strong family involvement supports student success, strengthens our schools, and benefits the entire district.

Excellence for Every Student

When students of all abilities are supported and learn together, it strengthens our schools and prepares children for success in the real world. Every student deserves the resources and opportunities needed to thrive.

Every student deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed in an environment that provides strong instruction, effective systems, and the resources needed to support their individual potential. Our schools must be focused on educational excellence while recognizing that students learn in different ways and require different levels of support.

When students of all abilities learn together with the appropriate support, it strengthens the entire school community. Inclusive learning environments build empathy, raise expectations, and help prepare students to succeed in a diverse, real-world community.

Like many families in Mesa Public Schools, my family has experienced this firsthand. My son is among the one in five students in MUSD who receive special education services. That experience has given me a personal understanding of how important these supports are—and how challenging it can sometimes be for families to navigate the system and ensure their children are receiving the services they need.

Our schools must remain committed to providing the resources, services, and support systems that allow every student to reach their full potential.
